Are you a pragmatic and commercially aware Risk and Compliance Manager able to lead our day-to-day compliance, financial crime and business risk activities? Do you have a strong working knowledge of AML and financial crime controls, including CDD, EDD, sanctions, PEPs, ongoing monitoring and suspicious activity reporting?

This is a broad, hands-on role with regular access to senior management and Board committees. The emphasis is on compliance, financial crime and risk, supported by the ability to review routine commercial contracts and manage external legal advisers.

About the role

‍

Reporting to our CFO, the Risk and Compliance Manager will own and continuously improve the firm’s regulatory compliance, financial crime and enterprise risk frameworks. Providing clear, proportionate and commercially practical advice to the Executive Team, business functions and Board committees.

As a key member of a small and dynamic team, your key responsibilities will be to:

‍

  • Own and improve our compliance, financial crime and enterpriserisk frameworks
  • Oversee AML, sanctions, PEP, customer due diligence and ongoing monitoring controls
  • Assess internal suspicious activity reports and determine whether external reporting is required
  • Act as MLRO and nominated officer, or progress towards the appointment
  • Maintain the compliance monitoring plan, policies, risk register and governance timetable
  • Advise on FCA requirements relevant to regulatory change, new products and material business changes
  • Provide constructive challenge and practical advice across the business
  • Prepare clear compliance, financial crime and risk reporting for senior management and Board committees
  • Promote a practical and proportionate compliance and risk culture
  • Review routine commercial agreements, NDAs and supplier contracts
  • Identify when specialist legal advice is required and manage external advisers effectively

About you

‍

In terms of knowledge, skills and experience, we would expect you to have:

‍

  • Relevant experience within an FCA-regulated financial services business
  • Strong working knowledge of AML and financial crime controls, including CDD, EDD, sanctions, PEPs, ongoing monitoring and suspicious activity reporting
  • Experience of compliance monitoring, policy development, risk assessment and senior-level reporting
  • The ability to interpret regulatory or legal requirements and translate them into practical business actions
  • Sound judgement, commercial awareness and confidence to challenge and escalate concerns
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Practical experience reviewing contracts and working with external advisers
  • The capacity to manage a broad remit effectively in a growing business
  • Experience in fintech or SME financial services

It would also be beneficial if you:

‍

  • Are CAMS/ACAMS certified
  • Have previous experience as a Deputy MLRO or financial crime lead
  • Know about operational resilience, CASS, data protection, Consumer Duty or relevant business lending standards
  • Have a relevant legal, compliance or financial crime qualification
